How is a Broken Gold Chain and Insurance related? Read more to find out, and no, this is not a Dad Joke!

No, this is not a Dad Joke!  As principal agent for our Albany NY insurance agency, I often relate things to insurance that most people would not think to, thank God.

Since I was a teenager, I’ve always worn a gold chain with cross and over the years it’s become like a security blanket for me. A couple months ago, my chain broke, it was thin, so I decided to buy a new one that was much thicker and more durable. After a bit of online shopping I zeroed in on a nice, what appeared to be thick, 14 Kt pure gold chain at an incredible price from a national retailer. I patted myself on my back for the find after clicking the “Buy” button.

The chain was delivered and looked fantastic as well as thick and durable. A few weeks later while on vacation I was subtly adjusting the chain and it broke. I brought it to a jeweler for repair and was told the chain was hollow and therefore should not be repaired and definitely not strong enough to hold my gold cross.

Fortunately, when I returned home from vacation I was able to return the chain at a local store of the national retailer. The professional jeweler at the counter told me that if I had looked at the chain at the store instead of online, she would have advised me that it was hollow and not a good choice for the size cross that I wear. She then went on and gave me a mini-education on gold chains and helped me to select one that was appropriate for me at a price that I was comfortable with.  I am now a happy and healthy gold chain and cross wearer once again!

How the heck does this relate to insurance?

I can’t even tell you the number of potential new customers we work with at our insurance agency that come to us thinking they have solid pure gold protection but actually have hollow coverage. A good percentage of these folks purchased their NY car, home, or business insurance by themselves online or by calling an 800 number. Hollow coverage to the extent that a major claim could end up ruining their financial lives without even knowing it.

Just as I’m not an expert with gold chains and made a big mistake by going it alone online, most people are not insurance experts and can end up purchasing gap-filled policies without the guidance of an insurance professional.

We understand there are a number of reasons that people purchase insurance on their own online or through an 800 number, it’s quick, convenient, and in many cases folks think they found a great deal. My great gold chain deal would have cost me a few hundred dollars if I weren’t able to return it.  A great insurance policy deal that lacks adequate coverage could end up costing the insured tens to hundreds of thousands of dollars or even more for a major claim.

What if I were to tell you that could work with an experienced professional insurance agent providing a comprehensive and thorough analysis of your specific needs at no cost or obligation to you?  Add to that, an agent who will manually quote amongst the top regional and national NY insurance companies to find the best option for you at no cost or obligation to you?  Plus, add in top flight personal friendly customer service with agents that know your name should you purchase your policy or policies through that agency at no additional cost to you?

I hope that sounds like a very good deal to you and that you take advantage of our NY independent insurance agency or any other of the fine independent insurance agencies across the state.

If you have any questions regarding available insurance options or would like a review, please contact us at 518-783-0105, we’re always glad to help.  The NY Insurance Hub serves Albany, Schenectady, Troy, Latham, Cohoes, Watervliet, Clifton Park, Saratoga Springs, surrounding Capital Region areas and all of New York State from NYC to Buffalo.
